I just got my brakes and trans fixed. I have only ran this car a couple of times and did not move it until today. I only moved it a couple of feet because the throttle cable was sticking and the was not returning all the way. The car is a 72 Skylark with what I believe is a GS 350 4 Barrel Engine. The carb is a stock Rochester 4 Barrel. I don't see a throttle return spring. Should I have one and if so does anyone have picture of the spring and spring location. Or is the throttle just stuck and needs a good cleaning and lubing. I did spray the outside of the carb with Gumout and WD-40. It has been sitting for a while. Let me know what you think. Thanks, Bob
You absolutely need a throttle return spring, don't drive the car without one. The stock return spring is a double spring, one larger spring with a smaller one that runs inside the larger one. The springs hook into a slot on the carb throttle arm. On the front side, the springs hook onto a bracket that is secured by one of the intake manifold bolts. You can get a suitable return spring in any auto parts store.
I was having the same trouble (throtle hanging) even with a good return spring. My problem turned out to be that the cable was fraying and getting ready to break. Since they had not reproduced them when I did mine, I just bought a Locar universal cable and "custom" installed it. I think now they reproduce then.
Larry, I can see why you said don't drive it. That is why I only went a couple of feet. The car was pointed towards the house and street and with new un-tested brakes that could be a mess ou: . I will get a spring today!!!! Thanks :TU: Bob
