I got this tilt column for my 69 chevelle, I believe the column is for a monte carlo, the problem I'm haveing is that the ignition rod moves in a different motion, with the standard colomn (non-tilt) when I turn the key forward the rod moves foward. with the tilt column, when I turn the key forward the rod moves backwards. now I re-bent the ignition rod to accomidate my original ignition switch. what's the deal, what fixes this??? do I have to fix the rod back to where it was???

    You have it backwards!

You can NOT use a non-tilt ignition switch on a tilt column.

You need to get a tilt column ignition switch.

When you go to plug in your wiring harness to the tilt column, you will need to rotate both plugs as a unit 180 degrees.

If you don't rotate the plugs....you will never be able to plug them in.

yeah I figured that out, I got my self a tilt ignition switch, pulled the column back out of the car. I cut some of the original column (non-tilt) ignition switch rod. (because I goofed up the tilt rod by cutting it and re-bending it to accomidate the non tilt ignition switch) I put the cut rod into the tilt ignition switch at one click away from full back position (fully back would be radio/acc.) and bolted it up. I put the key in one click away from full back. then I had the correct rod length again. I spliced the rods in and welded them together. Now it all works like it should :)

I'll tell ya though, I was ready to take that column out and throw it across the road, and the wiring up of the gauges was just going terrible, (because of the column switch being backwards)

All is well now. I got the gauges in with the covan's dash piece, I'll have to take a pic and post for you guys

on the bright side, I have good.........I mean goooood practice for when I do the buick:)

    Thanks
