Has anyone tried these protective films?

    Hey guys,

Has anyone tried anything similar to the products listed below? I'd really like to have something protective behind each of the wheel wells to catch road debris on the highway and hot rubber during the occasional burnout. However, I haven't had any luck finding any pre-cut products for a '67 GS400. Can anyone share their experience, or recommend something better?

Years ago I used magnetic panels that went behind each wheel well. I live on a gravel road and wanted to avoid any chips. The car has to be clean before using the panels as they will scratch the paint if there is any dirt. I stopped using them as it became a pain. There are newer products out there as you listed and I have seen a spray-on product. I might try one of those.

You can get other products like it, on spray can as well.. Just wear cloves when spraying on, because it sticks to your hands;)

This is interesting since I just ordered the 3m film and it was delivered today. They chip and seal all the roads around here so the gravel is always loose on the highways. I'm trying the stop the chipping behind my rear wheels. Can't say how it works or looks yet since I'm in the middle of building an 8-ft privacy fence between me and my creepy neighbors. Will put the film on soon and see how it looks/works.

Thanks for the inputs guys. I'm going to do a little more studying and decide which one I want to go with. I'm leaning toward the 3M film right now. Though, like I say, I have no experience with any of them.

    Houmark,
Does that spray from wuhrt always leave a textured finish? Or can it be layed on smooth?

    Dr. Roger,
I'll be pretty interested to find out what your results are with the film. If you think about it, will you keep us posted?

We are the only authorized shop in our area to fix Tesla cars. They get the whole car wrapped after we repair them. Like 2 days after we paint them. Should wait at least 2 weeks. it they don’t. So i guess we trap solvent.

I am not sure if it's the same stuff but I have plastic film installed on my truck and daily driver car. It works as advertised. Prevents paint chips from everything but the biggest debris. It's not pre-cut but I have no idea how they cut it during installation because it goes around some pretty complex surfaces and edges. Maybe there's a video of how to install on youtube?

So I finished building my 300 ft long, 8 ft tall privacy fence to keep out the creepy neighbors.

Finally got to try out the 3 M film. First I tried it dry. I ran from my shop screaming with it all tangled in my face/hair/underpants... it was quite a mess. Then tried the wet methods. It went on easier and smoother. Looks OK, much better than the chips by far. It is thick, so the line is a little obvious if you're looking for it. Can't say about the durability yet.
