Hard Starting when warm - fuel dripping down the venturi?

Noticed that, after a carb rebuild, the car was harder to start after it was shutdown and sat for a while.

I read on the board about a possible flooding situation, and so tonight I inspected the carb and noticed that, a few minutes after shutdown, fuel started dripping down the right (passenger side) venturi. It's coming out of the venturi cluster.

What can I do to keep this from happening? According to the adjustment spec, the float is supposed to be set at 1/2 in from the gasket to the seam in the float - the problem is that the float is only about 14/16ths tall so having it set that high it almost touches the gasket. I have the float set to 19/32nds (the setting for 65) and am still having the problem.

Carb seems to run great otherwise.

    This is a 66 Skylark with a 300 motor and 2bbl

    Thanks!

My Mustang was doing the same thing several years ago after a rebuild. Turned out to be a faulty needle and seat in the rebuild kit. I popped in another one and the problem was solved. I don't know where the needle and seat is located in the Rochester 2 barrel, but I'll bet it's on the passenger side. Check that out first. My 300 starts somewhat hard warm, and I put a steel spacer underneath the carb which helped some, but it's a 4 barrel, making it easier to find such a spacer. It's only about 1/16th of an inch thick plus appropriate gaskets. I'd start with the needle and seat since it's only coming out one side. Good luck!

You didnt say but if your starter is grinding the engine over slowly and goes dead its electrical. Battery, battery cables or the starter itself.
If the engine cranks over but wont start check the choke. Could be other things but thats where I would begin

Float level too high or float is too heavy, needle and seat is not sealing.
    Easy fix really.
Recommend new float and check for debris in needle and seat,if worn, replace. Set float to specs.

Needle and seat,if you don't know is at the fuel inlet to carb,if you can't understand the logic, pay someone to fix it,or you will surely mess that up. Fuel line into carb, then fuel filter, and needle and seat.
