Wow! What a shame, only 2 posts acknowledging Memorial Day in the midst of all the other more pertinent and more relevant posts on the board. Thank you, Dana and Beth and Kase for the kind words.
It wasn't Memorial Day just yet :TU: Far from being the unofficial start of summer, Memorial Day is a day when I consider what we have and how we got it. I started reading a very good biography of John Paul Jones last night as my way of remembering Thanks to all the folks who willingly sacrifice daily to preserve our Freedoms, and thanks to all who gave before them I'm a big WWII aviation buff, here's Lt. Urban "Ben" Drew shooting down one of the two Me-262 jets he got on the same day over Germany:
God bless them and all the sacrifices they have endured to ensure this nation remains free. It takes a lot of guts to do what they have done or are doing currently, and to do it with selfless convictions is a tribute to this great nation. We should all be proud of the job they are doing. Thank you brave soldiers, past and present, Patrick
Thank you to all of the Veterans on this board. And a specials thanks to the families of those who made the ultimate sacrifice. We owe our Freedoms to you. One of the veterans at work organized the other vets to bring in pictures, clothing, flags, field gear, etc from when they served. What a great idea that was! Learning a fellow worker is a Purple Heart recipient gives one new respect. Seeing pictures of guys I work with that were in Vietnam and realizing just how young they were to be in such a tragic situation was moving. It really made one realize that Memorial Day is about a whole lot more than a Monday off to have a picnic. It's about real heroes. Thanks again. :TU:
Here's a local story that makes you feel that there is some good in the youth of today: http://www.komotv.com/stories/37095.htm I was fortunate enough to be in DC the weekend prior to its dedication ceremony last Memorial Day. I've been back to DC three times since last May. Each time I went by Arlington Nat'l. The last time, in February, I had some extra time before I had to drop my rental car off. So I went there and spent a little extra time reading names before coming home.
