Happy 40th to former Bruins standout and All-Star, Cam Neely

While his career was cut short by calcified muscle and knee problems, he left his mark on the world of pro Hockey and is remembered here for his tough, hard play, and high goal total. A 50 goal scorer, Neely was robbed, in my opinion, of being in the coveted "50 in 50" club because the year he scored 50 goals in 50 games it wasn't his club's first 50 games- he was resting his injuries. So it was his first 50 games, not the team's. The rule is supposedly to keep players from preying on weak teams, but in Neely's case, he'd often sit out against the weaker teams, to prepare for tougher opponents. So, while he scored over 50 goals in under 50 games, he's not 'officially' a 50 in 50 player.

Some trivia about Neely- he was Micheal J. Fox's room-mate in College!

Happy Birthday, Cam! I was wearing your jersey last night :TU:

(If you don't remember him, he was in Jim Carrey's "Dumb and Dumber". He played the character SeaBass)

You can "claim" him as your adopted son, but Cam was raised in my little town of Maple Ridge which is about 20 miles outside of Vancouver. BTW, Cam never went to college or university. (Neither did Michael) But he is good friends with Michael, who is also from the Vancouver area.

A couple of other sports notables from my little town:
    Larry Walker (baseball)
Greg Moore (Indy car driver, deceased)

    Harvey

The the sportscasters here used to say he was MJF's roomate...I guess that was just a little 'artistic license'? :Do No:

Do you remember who the Canucks got for him in the trade? I do. He was later dealt back to Boston but didn't play long

    score Cam

My son was named Cam in honor of Cam Neely according to my wife. If you ask me I'll tell you he was named Cam short for camshaft. I originally wanted to name him Crank short for you guessed it crankshaft so we both reached a comprise. I really won because I too enjoyed his short career :beer

Ding ding ding, Harvey :) . Boston fans were unhappy about losing Pedersen...until Neely came to the team and kicked @ss that is. Remember when he picked up Claude Lemieux by the scruff of the neck and the seat of his pants, and started to ram his head into the boards, because Lemieux was only too happy to high stick, but wouldn't fight Neely? I'll never forget the game I saw at the Garden, when Neely got a hat trick. I also saw LaFleur skate that same season, for the Nordiques. Whenever LaFleur touched the puck, the Boston fans all yelled "GUUUUUUUUUUUUYYYYYYYYYYYY!" because we actually wanted him to score, figure that out. When he finally did, he got a standing ovation. His hair was still flying out behind him even at 40. He still seemed as fast as when he was 20, what a great player

Man do I miss that. I used to live Hockey. Too bad it's in the cr@pper now

A lot of them did. Heck, Bobby Hull used to smoke a lot of cigars when he was on his farm in the off season
