    Hello all,

A while ago I went to fix an exhaust leak and found that the very front lower driver's exhaust manifold bolt had been broken off in the head some time ago. Now by this time I have broken the seal that had existed at that gasket and the exhaust leak is really loud now.

What is the best way to get this bolt out. I don't think I can get a drill in there as is.

Should I pull just the head or the whole motor?

Anyone that has any experience with this sort of thing, please chime in.

    Man is this frustrating :Dou:

Sounds like your going to have to pull the whole head off. Drill it out and put a heli-coil in. Should be able to get the instruction's off the net. The biggest complaint is going to be taking the head and off and putting it back on. Make sure you get a cylinder head gasket kit with intake gaskets.

Can you get to the broken bolt with a wire-welder?

If so you can probably weld a nut to it.
The resultant heat breaks the bond and the nut/stud screws right out.

Here's an even better method using a flat washer and nut.

Chris is the exhaust manifold off yet? If not, then there's a good chance you'll break another one or two bolts off. Pull the heads..

And while you're at it......:Brow: Clean those heads up and get 'em rebuilt....port....big valves....headers...exhaust....cam....

    uh, yeah.

Probably never had gaskets originally. Resurface them to true them up and clean the head side well before reinstalling sans gaskets.
