Had a little go with an SS396

On my way to a local car show and saw a 69 SS in my mirror. We caught the light at the 475 exit, basically one of those light sets on both sides of an expressway overpass. We could not get side by side because of traffic, I was in front and he was right behind me. I leave in drive, not sure if he wanted to play and did not want to look like ricer boy taking off. Watch the mirror and saw the front end of the Chevelle come up so I lean into the throttle but not quick enough for it to downshift to 1st, I did not want a lot of tire spin with civilians in the next lane. Pulled the Chevelle about 4 easy lengths by the time we were over the highway. Had to shut down for the next light. We both pulled into the show. Talked to him a little later and had a good laugh over our little race. It was a pretty stock 396 (cam, headers, and Holley), recently rebuilt and dynoed at 385HP. He had period tires so he takes it easy off the line.

He said he got a big thumbs at up the stop light from the lady in the Impala that was next to us when we took off.

I love feeding on the natural prey of the BBB. Rice is a nice snack but is not really filling.

Its a ski boat. The 351W is a 351 ford windsor engine. It would be an inboard with a rudder. Not and Inboard Outboard. The engine is literally in the middle of the boat.

...and if you're ever in one and the driver says "Hold On while I hang a 180..." you best be holding on !!!

    Nice Kill :beer

The Nautique is a bit like a muscle car. Small boat (18ft.) with a big motor. Mine is an antique and I have had it for 27 years. It is not very fast, was designed for one thing, pull competitieve water ski events. If you water ski there is nothing better than an inboard ski boat, everything else sucks.

... back about 10 years ago I used to hang out on a small lake at a friends house. He had a 19' speedboat with a 225hp evenrude that would top out at about 75 freshly waxed. Another friend on the lake had a brand new Ski Nautique that topped out just over 45 or so.

One day we had the bright idea to make a human pyramid and had 6 people willing to try ... try as we might the speed boat would only yank 3 of us out of the water. The Ski Nautique grunted hard and yanked us all out.

My other comment was pointed at how gut-wrenching that thing could hang a turn ... literally like being on a wild roller coaster ride :beers2:
