I have a customer with a 1969 Pontiac Trans Am. He wants to go Balls out on his car. He wants the Rear Axle housing / Leaf Springs / Drive shaft Bare metal . Dipping all parts in sulfuric acid. Axle pumpkin (housing) I will coat with a paste called SHARKS HIDE. It's a lot like Rennaissance wax. I will apply that to my Leaf springs to. But thinking of Using Bluing dye for Guns ( rifles and hand guns) on the Tubes . Because that metal had a blue transparent hue to it. Has anyone heard of this or has seen this done. I hear that High end Mucscle car Restoration shops are doing this a lot these days! Any info would be appreciated.

Do a Google search for 'Parkerizing', aka Phosphating.
It's a finish used on firearms. and also on many parts for our cars, especially hardware and items like hood hinges.

Phosphate would be Flatter (dull) and lighter. Bluing would be darker and have a glosser sheen with a Blue hue to it. I have been on the Gun Forums.

Parkerizing. The ol timers like to use that on the older Muzzle loaders . Barrels got Darker and Blacker . Going away from the "blue look"

OK, you really mean a 'blue' look. Haven't heard of that used on cars. Would the axle tubes need to be polished first? or at least be real smooth..

Parkerizing gives that OEM grey sparkly finish.

Two flavors of gun blue, cold and hot. Cold for consumer touch-up, hot dip almost as much trouble as better solutions like Parkerizing. While better than bare metal, both rust.

I think I'm setting myself up for Disaster. I think I would get light and dark spots. I'm chick'n out
