I read the thread below, I'm building a clone/ replica, so exact is not my goal, but look alike is! my question is who, besides phoenix grafix, (in AZ) and performance grafix ( in NC) offers stencils or decals. I prefer decals ,as thats what I'm more familiar with. after having done 100's of sheriffs units. but I read some of your opinions of decals. my hood is NOT a GS hood, (flat hood) and probably won't be ,as at current prices, not in my budget! I've scoured the net for pic of "correct" stripes, and believe I have an idea on what to look for, that and the help of some of you on why other stripes are not correct,
I've heard all of the BAD comments about the decals, but it completely differs from my experience. On this car I used the Phoenix Graphics kit and I was extremely happy with it and the results. Here are a few pics...… judge for yourself. I would like someone to tell me what's wrong with them?
Steve, you must have had a different stencil than I did. Your rear stripes are way skinnier than the ones I had. Did you use the stencil on top of the rear spoiler or the hood?
Also, if you want all the precise measurements for the stripes, I can supply them. You'll have to lay them out entirely by hand. It won't take any longer than trying to use those kits.
Yes, please, I'd like the measurements for the stripes, etc, not sure which way I'm going yet, also...... is the hood black- gloss, semi gloss, or flat, and the stripes too ! I see different levels of gloss on different cars, have to admit, for last 25 yrs , been doing turbo buicks..... black,,,, just black, ..LOL even my GNX was black, just black, I contacted phx grafix, they offer ONLY stencils, no decals?
I had one of their earlier kits from what I understand. I used the decal on the sides and on the spoiler, but laid out and painted the hood using the factory measurements. I also applied the decals on the sides using the factory measurements and everything came out pretty much spot on. They did have to send me a second spoiler decal as the first one was a little too short on the ends...……. but they rectified it and everything was good after that. Maybe they changed something along the way...……..way too many variables and unknowns to even speculate. All I know is that my kit was good and worked well for me. Steve
I'll have to find a photo I shot of the ultra wide rear stripe as I was laying it out. It was pretty glaringly obvious something was up. That is what made me rethink the entire thing.
I am working on getting a much nicer and clearer copy of the stripe measurements..I will have to sacrifice a magazine, but they should be a whole lot darker and clearer to see...
