Hey all. I have a question about the 1970 GSX steering wheel that CARS sells. Has anyone bought one from them? I own a 70GS 455, and right now its got the 3 spoke sport steering wheel, its ok, but I've seen GSX's with the GSX wheel in the past and allways thought they looked awesome, however its a little pricey at $317 dollars, but I would buy one if its well made and worth it. Is there any other place to buy one? Thanks.

Haven't seen one of them up close to check quality. If you want the same feel and look you can use a 3 spoke Corvette wheel. While certainly not "correct" for the GSX, it is very similiar. Just a bit smaller in diameter and no slots in the spokes. Bolt right on though and the cushion part is identical. They can be puchased used very reasonable too. I think I paid 50 bucks for mine.

Duane Heckman on this Board is the guy who still makes them. I presume you are speaking of the 70 wheel which is the real unique one. It is 16 inches in diameter and has the bigger grip . In 71 they went to 15 inch and the smaller grip.

If you want perhaps a great alternative the Olds 442 wheel ( 4 spoke and the big grip). The Buick cap fits.

We have posted pics on the Board of these in the past.

    Bob,

If you decide to sell your wheel let me know. I might be interested.

    Guys,
The 70 GSX wheel was the first 15" wheel that was developed. It was offered in the second half of the 70 production year and was used on the GSX and as an optional wheel for the Nova Yenko's.

In 1970 if you had a Skylark/GS you got a thin grip 16" sport wheel. If you had a GSX you got a thick grip 15" sport wheel.

For 1971-1972, all Skylark/GS and GSX cars got a thin grip 15" sport wheel.

    I hope this clarifies everything.

70 sport wheels were 16".....The GSX specific wheel is 15" with a thicker grip. Duane's wheel is a great piece.
