What is correct for a 70 GSX stage 1 Did they come with the Stage 1 emblems on the front fenders or not? I have also seen stage 1 motors (70) with chrome air cleaner lids and without? What is correct or did they come both ways?? I have seen both. Dennis....
All GSXs (including Stage 1 cars) came sans the fender emblems and the breather lid should be black, not chrome. HTH Korrie
I wouldn't bet on that... I've seen a 70 chrome lid with the "factory silkscreen on the underside still in tact" (in yellow ink I believe). I also have a parts catalog showing the lids with "except chrome or HD breather". o No:  Maybe Duane will chime in with what HE knows?
Chrome air cleaner lids did indeed come from the factory in 1970. Only you had to buy a Riviera to get one..:Brow: The GSs didn't get the chrome air cleaner lid from all my research.
Al is correct, NO 70-72 GS A-bodies came with chrome air cleaner lids. If one of these cars has one on it, then it's wrong. I know that the dealerships sold the part as a "dress-up" item, but the cars were not delivered that way. Now some 69 GS Stage 1 A-bodies did come with them, but that was it. As far as the big cars, I don't know. Duane
Duane, Are there any ID numbers or markings on the '69 and dealer installed lids? My car had one on it when I got it in '85 and I've always figured it came off a '69 but would like to know for sure. This might be a rare piece. I've not been able to find anynumbers on it.o No:
The 69 Stage 1 chrome lid debate has gone on for years. They were "supposed" to be standard with the chrome lid. The original Stage 1's I have seen over the years did have them. A couple of things were possible. If they ran out of them at the factory the painted lids could have been substituted. Also, having worked at a dealership, the lids could have been switched when the cars came in. At any rate, the 69 Stage 1 should have had them. Mark Darren, my lid has no markings that I can find. Also, I have bought new ones that were chrome and had no markings.
