Had my tach rebuilt many years ago by R&C. Did a very nice job but, there was a bit of trash in the movement the first time he sent it back to me He fixed it no charge other than shipping a year or so later though so no harm done. I was told by a third party that his work was top notch and that he bought most if not all of the GM hood tach parts before they became un-available.

In my years with the GS is seems the hood tach is one of those items that a lot of people complain about after they install them. I don't think I'd put one on a car that was not stored inside as no matter what they do the tach is going to get condensation inside which is going to keep taking its toll on the electronics.

    regards

    Ken,

Do you (or anyone else) have contact info for R&C? I need to have my hood tach rebuilt this winter. Anybody have someone they can recommend?

    Thanks, Chris

I tried the rebuild route once. The cost looked to be likely as much as a new one from OPGI. That is what got me started buying the repros.

Should be able to seal up the electronics with a dielectric gel or sorts. The TCI on my bike is filled with gel to stop just that.

    James,

Which Tach did you end up purchasing? Year One or OPGI? I am about to buy a Tach before my Auto Body Man paints my GS Hood.

Was it worth the quality and appearence?

    Thanks
