Without going into a long post you can get this info in a Buick guide by Steven Dove , and also in the front of any year one catalog . John
68-70 44637(Hardtop), 44667 (Convertible) 71 43437 (Hardtop), 43467 (Convertible) 72 4G37 (Hardtop) 4G67 (Convertible), 5th digit is a V- Stage1 That's it basically for the GS big blocks, GS350's have differences in the VIN
except in 71 where 350's and 455's share the same vin! Talk about confusion. So in 71 the best way to tell a big block is from the matching trans(tough to re-stamp) or the steering shaft with the clamp.
Vin# vs Cowl Tag I am wondering about 1972 GS 455 Stage 1 that I saw. The vin is correct for a 72 GS and is 4G37V2H****** and the cowl tag shows the following: ST72 43437FL1 Then all the body, paint, trim and seats. Should the body tag (43437FL1) match the beginning of the vin? If not how does this body tag decode? ST72 43437FL1 059881 Body TR 138 14 B Pnt 10B A51 I received this body tag info from the owner on the phone so I don't know for sure that it is correct. The vin number shown is correct. Thanks, George
Buick and Fisher were two different companies. Buick changed the way they coded VINs from 1971 to 1972, and Fisher did not. 434 is the correct Fisher body data plate code for 1971 and 1972 Gran Sport models. Confused ou: PS - 1972 Silvermist (code 14) as one beautiful color :beer
