I already own several Turbo Regals and now have the itch for a convertible Buick. I'm not looking for a numbers matching car, since this would be a car that I would build to my taste. A 455 cruiser with a 200R4 automatic that my family and I could drive to Nats or a local show. So I'm wondering what the differences are between a GS and Skylark convertible. Specifically the 70-72 models.
    Thanks,
    John

    Aside from the VIN?

    Grille
    Hood
    engine options
    transmission (for the engine options)
    rear gears
    emblems
    rocker panel stripes (potentially)
    air cleaner
    rag joint coupling

What are you trying to do, clone one? Pretty easy to do, I drive a GS455 convertible clone and you need to know your VINs or your GS cars very well to tell the difference. Externally they are identical with the right body parts (grille, hood).

I would rather have a GS, but I'm not opposed to building a clone. I want something I can build the way I want and enjoy driving. I have all the VIN code information for the 70-72 models, so that is not a problem. If only the hood and grill are different, then I don't see a problem with building a clone. One other question. I there a book similar to Kirban's guide to Turbo Buicks for the GS?
    Thanks,
    John

    Hi John -

Look for 'A Guide to GS Buick' by Steven L Dove - I believe Postons or Year One should carry it.
