I was just wondering what kind or brand of glue or adhesive to use for mounting foam seals to the factory ram air cleaner? Allen allioop108@aol.com
Personally, I attach mine only for shows, using masking tape rolled up to make double-sided tape. I never close the hood on them so that they will never get squsihed and deformed
For the Year One repros I have on my car, I used motorcycle handgrip cement, which is designed to 'give' at a certain pressure (for easy removal). For NOS ones, I would not glue them - as Nicholas states above, just put them on for shows without cement.
Save the air cleaner for shows and use an open element cleaner for driver. I use clear silicone from Home Depot in a caulking tube. Just run a small bead, 1/8", in a zig-zag pattern where the foam mates to the cleaner. Stay away from the edges. Install the foams and them rest a light book or a small weight to compress the foam until the silicone cures, usually overnight.
I think the factory might have used something like 3m yellow trim adhesive o No: All the original ones I have replaced had a yellow colored adhesive on them. Bill
Alan, Put the factory air cleaner in a box and save it for later. Go with an aftermarket setup. The stock ram air setup wasn't worth a bag of poop for performance.
