Hello How can I tell if a Riviera GS is a GS???, I have the VIn# as well as the cowl tag info, Will this tell me if its a Riveria GS? Gord
Re: riv GS or not True. Unless you have a build sheet it is nearly impossible... But... ALL Riv GS's came with a 3.42 posi rear axle. If it doeasn't it either isn't a GS or somebody swapped out the rear. They came with a thicker front sway bar, chrome air cleaner lid and GS fender emblems. Hi Thanks for the response guys, It is a 1970 Riviera, the cleaner is gone, How can you tell a posi vs a non-posi, will it have a small tag or do you have to turn the wheels?
A posi had a tag on onr of the bolts from the factory. Other than that, either jack it up and spin the driveshaft and see if both rear wheels spin forward, or start the car, put it in gear, mash the accelerator to the floor for 5 seconds and then get out and count the black marks in the road. 1 mark = no posi 2 marks = posi
Posi ....... Left foot on brake , Mash gas , Release brake with foot mashed on the gas is a lot more fun than jacking the car up and checking ! :3gears: :3gears:  :TU: :TU:
Re: Re: Re: riv GS or not You know, I was told it did, and that it was a "handling" package. Yet I had a 69 Riv GS chassis I bought (from the original owner who gave up on a rust-bucket frame off resto). I know it was a GS chassis because I saw the window sticker. And the front sway bar was identical to my non-GS Riv. Not sure if mine was ordered with a "handling package" or "tpwing package", but the owner of it DID tow with it. So maybe there was no diff. Sure would like to know for sure.
gs or not the GS option in 1970 was a ride and handling package and came with a 3:42 posi. it did include a chrome air cleaner lid without a decal on it. only one 455 offered for GS or non GS car rated at 370HP
Both my '66 and '67 factory manuals list only one size sway bar....a fatter bar is not mentioned. Bummer, I could use one.
Call Year One and order ADDCO sway bar part number 530. The rear is part number 933. My car handles like a dream. Absolutely NO sway or dip when cornering. It'll really carve the twisties!
      Thanks so much guys, I am a back yard part time newbie mechanic with little experience and alot of ambition drive and motivation. This hobby is my stress relief and if it wasn't for this discussion group and the great bunch of people here I probably would of given up on the whole car restoration thing a long time ago. Thanks so much
