70 Gsx + 87 Gn I have had many big blocks and only one Turbo they are both Great cars the X is for car shows and fun driver, the GN is great looking and fast and has Air which is nice on a Hot day but the big block can't beat the sound its like a Harley Davison to a Suzuki trail bike my vote is for the big block :TU: but its great to have best of both worlds. :3gears:
Once you give in to the dark side you'll wonder how you ever got along without one. But there's something special about the massive old school torque of a big block at WOT. We like both :TU: :3gears: :3gears: D & B
I'd have to keep the GS can't beat the Style and Instant Tourqe, but I have had Three turbo regals and they keep comming back uzzled: !! Once you have one your Hooked :3gears:
Hair dryers vs the real thing Alright lets :af: :af: :af: a little ,when I went to the gs nats a few years ago I saw : some dudes wearing hats and shirts with a V-sucks logo,  ,The turbo dudes websight has some real winners posting some radical threads, they are in their own universe :: OLD SCHOOL IS BEST SCHOOL :TU: NO vacume cleaners or Hair dryers in this old mans garage  :Smarty: :Comp: :beer
Enjoy what you want to, Build them as you see fit, make them numbers matching, or make them your own. V6 or V8 I do appreciate. I own one of each and enjoy both cars, but being 43 years old, I grew up with V8 muscle and Love the sound of a hard thumping BBB, but, I can sneak up on folks easier with the GN, Hey It's all good!!!! Bruce
When I herd the term BUICK RULES back in 1984 (high school) they wern't talking about the V6  , it was the 68 GS 400 :beer
There is no arguing the turbo website has some real morons on it but they do not represent true Buick loyalists...V8 and Turbo! I'm the original owner of my turbo car so I could never sell it, but I would never sell my GSX either! Paul
Who needed a small Buick in the 70's when you had the big block Riviera or Electra around ? And wasn't that GSX the first riced Buick, with spoilers and stuff that didn't help top end performance...... ? :moonu: If it's for the little 70's Buicks, I respect the GS455, the GSX was just a posh car and nowadays over-appriciated by the Buick crowd. It still is not able to beat a LS1 Chevelle in auctions  Go big, go bad and get yourself a Grand National Buick :TU:
Erik, Don't take this wrong but you know nothing about the GSX as an aero package. The guy that developed it is a friend of mine named Ron Frakes. The package does reduce lift and drag. Many have reported 2 mph improvements by running the GSX package. Buy the way Ron has the best GSX I have ever seen and is currently shopping for a GNX.
Don't Buy A Turbo Buick! As a previous owner of 2 turbo Buicks & 4 V8 Buicks, hands down the only way to go is V8! From personal experience, reasons NOT to buy turbo Buicks are: 1) INCONSISTANT in drag racing 2) UN-RELIABLE in drag racing 3) TEMPERMENTAL 4) Difficult to tune 5) A pain in the @$$ to work on PERIOD! 6) A pain in the @$$ to work on PERIOD! #s 7 thru 20 repeat 1 thru 6 I have been a loyal Buick enthusiast for 15 years and was hanging out with the turbo Buicks when they was new. There is no telling how many people i've talked OUT of buying turbo Buicks thru the years, some I didn't have to try to hard as they saw what I was going thru with my POS. I have to respect these cars cause they ARE Buicks, & the 1's that are fortunate to get A full potential pass out-of-10 runs (when they run) usually fly but it's not very often For what it cost $ for $ you can go just as fast with a V8 Buick, have more fun & a lot less headaches. You can spend your money & set-it-up to run pump gas or race gas, what ever you so desire but in the end you'll have a more enjoyable experience with a V8 Buick & a lot more heads turning. GNs are WAY to over-rated.
Yeah, I just hate it when I can drive to the track with the AC on and run an easy mid 12 at 110 mph on street tires, drive back home and get 25 mpg with my 87 GN. Oh did I mention that its only got a few bolt ons, like adj. fuel pressure regulator, adj. wastegate, Hooker downpipe and full exhaust, Walbro 340 pump and hot wire kit, K & N air cleaner, 92 street chip on 92 pump gas. Thats stock turbo, injectors and intercooler. Oh and it has 180K miles without a rebuild. To get my Stage 1 to run those times & speed back in late 70's I had spent quite a bit of time and money and the engine had been opened up. I never considered it a Buick against Buick issue. I am just thankful that we can have the best of both eras and they have Buick nameplates and powertrains.
Buick vs Buick I don't know. There is no equal to the sound of my 72 Stage 1 with the Mickey Thompson headers and 3" exhaust. Shifting that four speed and listening to those headers scavange when you let off the gas to shift is a great high; second only to my honeymoon night. I love driving that car and the sensations and sounds can't be replaced. My Turbo-Regal Limited runs high 10's/low 11's on race gas and high 11's/low 12's on pump gas and will blow the tires away anytime you build boost below 45 MPH. But I can drive that car anywhere in the country and get 26 mpg with cruise and A/C. I built it right and have not had the motor or turbo out of it for 6 years. However it sounds "SICK" as I am 53 years old and the V-8 rumble is turn on few today understand. If I could only have one and had to choose I would keep the Stage 1 (it has A/C) and fuel costs be damned. P.S. I love the wooden rollercoasters better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mikey
sadly i've driven neither, so i'm going to say 350 skylark...and later down the road procharged haha...but i wouldnt mind either if i came across a deal.. i'm so damn curious what it feels like to be in either of those cars!
They are so different they can't be compared. My teen aged sons like the GN and I like the Wildcat...
I have owned 10 turbo regals , only 1 was not intercooled/ and fuel injected, and just recently got my first 2 v-8 buicks, one of which is totally disassembled. guess what? You can't beat the looks you get with the classic. You can't beat the smooth flow of power, and it is just a 350-2 barrel. Personally, I love the top down cruising. Granted I love the RUSH of the BOOST, but I can't wait to get the 455 convertible done to get the ultimate adrenaline rush of my own 455 convertible nailed to the floor with the top down. The older V8 and turbo V6 are SLEEPERS, but the V-8 cars are so much simpler to work on and are more reliable overall. Both are real sleepersOH yeah; did they even offer a convertible REGAL? V8 BUICKs FOREVER
I've got both and love both -- bought the GN new. But I had to vote for the GS for one simple reason -- it's a ragtop. Yeah, the GN is finicky, but there is no way I would drive it every day with it's lousy mileage. The GN gets acceptable MPG numbers while delivering lots of performance. Might have voted for the GN if they ever made a ragtop, but since it wasn't an option -- GS it is.. -- Steve
