My car is a 65 Skylark and not a GS. I want to clone it into a GS. It will have a 401 Nailhead in it. Since it is a plain Skylark do I need to use the GS linkage for my 4 spd. application or can I get by with using the Skylark linkage? WEI sent me pics. of both and man it looks like it will be really tough to find the GS linkage or very costly one of the two. Any answers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for any help! Tim, The only other way to do it is to use a hydraulic throwout bearing. Good luck if you go the stock GS route.
Thanks George, That don't give me the clutch linage for a GS car. The GS clutch linkage is what I'm looking for. Tim
I would guess you could use a small block set-up for the 300 with the Bendtsen's bellhousing. It might still be hard to find the components...How many small blocks were made with 3 / 4 speeds? It seems to me you have to fork over the dough for OEM or be creative and customize.
my only question on the bendtsons setup is about the equalizer bar or Z bar. i dont remember my 65 GS engine having a hole or a place for the hole that the ballstud would screw into. can anybody confirm this?
You are right GSS. Judging by where the 300 stud is on the engine it looks like it aligns near the starter bolts on a nail. May have to fabricate a 1/4" plate with a 90 degree bend for that ballstud to bolt to. This part.... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/53-B...ItemQQcategoryZ34208QQitemZ230108392511QQrdZ1 Is what gave me the idea. Im in Italy right now so i'll say Ciao. -a
You're right. Nailhead has the starter mounted on the left side of the block, so there is no provision for a ballstud. The 65-66 GS's (and others) had the Z-bar mounted on the frame only, it didn't use the engine block for a pivot point. Go hydraulic.
Thanks Guys, Looks like there aren't many options unless you get lucky and the OEM parts. That looks like it may never happen. It looks like it would be a miracle to find the OEM parts. Thanks Again!!! Timo No: :dollar:
