Many years ago I swapped a 2004r with the TH400 in my GS455. Am now on my 2nd tranny and once again am losing 2nd gear. This one has only lasted a year. A local mechanic blames it on the TV cable setup. I don't have any pressure equipment so I set it using the same procedures as my GN, set at limit at WOT.

Since it stopped grabbing 2nd gear I have loosened the cable to ease the shift but now it slams into 3rd. If I drive it easy it will shift through to 3rd then all is good. If I drive it hard it will not grab 2nd at all just slip.

If I set the cable length equal to the GN adjustment, will that be best for now so I can drive it until I can give it to a shop? Unfortunately I just lost reverse in my GN so it's down and just hit a deer in my SUV so it is in the shop. 3 vehicles and all damaged...... this sucks. I had to de-winterize the GS just to have wheels for the next couple of days and then this tranny messes up.

Suggestions? Anyone know a good tranny shop in the St Louis Area? Got 2 2004rs that need repair. Also anyone know where to get a good cable bracket to put with the Quadrajet?

    2nd gear thingy

Bob, you need to talk to "The Old Guy" on here as he had the 2nd gear problem with the 200R4 in his '72 GS 455, it's been fixed and I'm not exactly sure what the issue was, but something with the 2nd gear pump or like that in the trans. So look him up. do a search on "The Old Guy" on here.

Thanks for the referrals. Will contact both of them. One last consideration am using a 2800 stall lock-up converter (4th gear)

    TCI advertises a cable bracket for a Q-jet/200-4R set-up.

You might want to take a look at their billet servo upgrade for the band. It's also available from Superior Transmission Parts
