My 1969 GS 400 Convertible has the cruise control option. I was wondering if this was a fairly rare option for that model. Probably no way to break down the production options for the number of models produced. My question is how many of you that own the 1969 GS 400's and verts have this option? It would be interesting to start a poll on the factory options for these cars.
The numbers are broken down by option in the 1969 GM "Daily Car Reports". 61 Total 1969 GS400 Convertibles built with "Cruise Master", Sales code S6, UPC K30 43 at the Flint plant 15 at the Wilmington Plant 3 at the Fremont plant. :TU:
The rest of the info from the Daily Car reports; 1969 GS400 Conv. built with the following option combinations; Full length console & Cruise Master 34 Flint 8 Wilmington 2 Fremont 44 Total AC & Cruise Master 29 Flint 6 Wilmington 2 Fremont 37 Total AC & Vacuum Door Locks & Cruise master 7 Flint built cars only. That is all of the info that the reports show for the Cruise master option. :beer
Mike, thanks for those numbers. I didn't realize that the data even existed. I guess I have one of 34. Where did you aquire that info? Do you know how many were built with a pearl white top / interior and the signal red body? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks for sharing your information. GG :TU:
They are called 'Daily Car reports', and they can be purchased for $5 a photocopied page from the Sloan Museum. Just ask for the reports for a specific model/year. A typical model/year spans 7 photocopied pages. The Sloan Museum can be contacted through their website or call (810) 237-3450, and ask for the collections department.
Marco, Thanks for the additional info and contact information. I will certainly inquire. Great to see that there still is a papertrail for these classics. My personal feeling is that one day the Buick A Bodys will get the real attention and prices that they deserve! Everybody has a Camaro or Mustang. We Buick guys are a proud bunch, as these cars have Styling, Rarity, Options, and serious horsepower to back it all up. Gotta love em.
One of the problems with the "daily car reports" is that they do not list many option combinations like exterior paint color with a certain interior style. Here is what the '69 GS400 report shows (answers to your questions); Signal Red Cars 227 Flint 61 Wilmington 13 Fremont 301 Total White Convertible top 556 Flint 194 Wilmington 54 Fremont 804 Total Pearl White Bucket Seats 418 Flint 125 Wilmington 35 Fremont 578 Total. :beer
Mike, that's some great information! It would also be interesting to find out how many 68 and 69 cars got the RH mirror.
44667 ........44667 .................44667 ..........................44667 ....................................44667 Man.....I love those #'s Thanks Marco :TU: :beer
As Marco said, the numbers that I posted are '69 GS400 convertible specific. David, The '68/'69 RH Mirror was a dealer installed option as far as I know. It does not show up on any of the wholesale order forms that I have. So we will never know. I think the first "dual" mirrors available from the factory on the GS were the '70 sport mirrors. :beer Alan, 44667, 44667, 44667, 44667 Thought you would like that...
Interesting Mike.....The Accesory pages in my "1969 BUICK Features" book doesn't list the right side mirror, the "1969 Buick Salesman's Pocket Directory" doesn't either. I wonder what the price was ?? Whats interesting is surgery needs to be performed on the door for installation - I'm betting the mirror costs less (Back then) than the time it took to install it. Mike....another interesting thing I've been looking at, if you have the time, willingness and curiosity is the breakdown of manual trans. A-body cars - specifically the 3 speed on the floor, by model and engine type. I was going to guesstimate 6% on the Cruise Control, and it was more like 3.4%........Im going to guess 2% or less on 3 speed floor shifted cars, but we'd need total production #'s to get a percentage I think I need to order these sheets :Smarty: :Comp: 44667....44667...44667...gonna play lotto right now, Guess my #s ??
Alan, Here is the info on the side mirror that was an accessory in '68. I am sure it was the same on the '69. As for the 3 speed floor shift "A" body cars, I only have info on the '69 GS400,GS350 and GS400 Conv., no others (Skylark, Special, etc). I have started to compile some of the productions numbers on a quick ref. sheet and this is what I have so far; 3-speed floor shift transmission (sales code B9) GS400 Coupe = 126 (1.66 % of cars produced) GS400 Conv. = 52 (2.93%) GS350 Coupe = 175 (2.78%) 3-speed column shift transmission GS350 only = 58 No GS400 coupes or conv. Total GS400 Coupe production = 7602 GS400 Conv. production = 1776 GS350 production = 6305 Please do not use these numbers as gospel because I have not been able to 100% check them and there may be a typo, but the numbers did come from the "Daily Car Reports". :beer

Ken, That is interesting. The GM Daily Car Reports for the '69 4667 show that only 132 GS400 Convertibles were shipped to Canada. I wonder why the numbers are different from GM Canada? o No:
I don;t know but I have the letter from GM Canada I could scan it and send it to you if you like. If this helps with the over all account of these cars then great. There are at least 5 GS400 convets in calgary that I know of I bought mine in the fall of 1984 Ken Pm me if you want
