    Mark,

Any chance of still getting a brake booster for a 1971 GS for the same price?

Has anyone installed one on a 70 yet? Scott Miller I did a quick visual of my brake booster and a mounting bolts tonight, and it looks to me like you would have to drill out one of the holes (the one on the other side of the booster from the one that was already drilled out, now sure why they didn't drill out both sides) or bend one of the bolts to make it fit.

Not sure if this would be the case on other years, but it looks to be on a 70. Anybody else encounter this?

Modifications I did to make it fit.

I'm going to try to explain an issue that I have ran into when I installed the booster.
I couldn't get it to install without modifying the hole pattern on the booster for the 4 studs fixed to the firewall. My studs have a different hole pattern than the new booster. But, the old booster has an unmodified hole pattern different than the new. So, I was wondering if anyone else has a hole pattern difference. Mainly wondering if 72 were in any way different? On the original booster, on the passenger side, the hole pattern minimum distance of the 2 holes was .840. The new booster was 1.010. So I ended up with my Dremel endmill and elongated the holes to get to the .840. I gave all of this info to Mark. He didn't really know why I would have to modify it like that. So, hopefully I can get to the bottom of 72 owners have a small difference. Or I have an odd ball setup.
Was just hoping for someone else having something odd like this. Anyone at all have an issue like this? It still mounts up good, Looks great, Just wondering! Thanks everyone!

    Troy,
As I said in our PM's, you aren't the only one with this situation. My 70 is the same way, though I haven't measured it like you have, I noticed that the studs have an irregular pattern with 2 studs being closer together than the other two. I fully expect to have to modify the holes when I install my booster. The original booster I have does not have elongated holes, and it fits perfectly. I don't know if this was a result of sloppy factory quality control, or if it was deliberate for some reason?

    Offset hole patterns are normal.

I'm sure everyone knows, but offseting one of the studs on the firewall will keep people from installing the booster upside down or just in the correct orientation. We do that on all injection molds as well. But it appeared the manufacturer understood there was some difference in bolt patterns by elongating the bottom driver side hole. But I would think from our issues, the opposite side needs that done as well. Oh well, we are all masters of make it work, right?
Glad to hear it isn't just mine that is different. Anyone else?

Mark, would be o.k. if I were to order one of these from you? I had to take care of a few financial things a few weeks back.

If you can,I really appreciate it. Thank you.

    Guys,

At the request of a board member, I just pulled one from the box and checked it's fit on the '72 STG 1 Convert we are working on here in the shop, and yes, you will have to elongate the bottom hole on the passenger side mount, toward the centerline of the two holes. Match it to the drivers side mount, and it will go right in.

Issues like this are not uncommon with reproduced parts, and it will not affect the operation of the unit.

I would spray a little bit of clearcoat in and around that hole, to keep it from rusting.

    I didn't think about clearcoating.

Dangit, it never even crossed my mind to spray that thing after I worked it over. Here I go to tear it down again. What great experience. I'm very very green at this. But, I would not be able to do this

It took me about 3 hours. I was trying to not break anything. Waiting on jb to break bolts loose, talking to the family, looking for an extra light to see behind this thing, cleaning under stuff I've not had out before. But, it was pretty easy. Most any of us can do it!

Mark, thanks for all of the help here, this is a great deal for all of us! I hope I don't keep you from offering your help here again. I apologize if I have in any way made you feel like that!
    Jim, Thanks for your help!
Larry, Chris thanks to you guys also!

Re: Offset hole patterns are normal.

    Troy,

Exact same problem with mine when I tried it at Scott Miller's house last night. He also had a booster that he bought a little while ago (not from Mark) and it had the same problem The boxes were identical so they may have been the same manufacturer.

I am not blaming Mark here, he is just the middleman. Seems the manufacturer didn't do the best possible job.

Appreciate that you actually pulled one out and test fit it.

I got one for my 64 Riv but it is incorrect so if anybody still wants it they can have it for what I have in it, $166.00. The box was opened but I never took the booster out.

There is a picture of the booster earlier in this thread, page 2 or 3 I think.

I needed to see the backside. It is different for the "A" bodies, so I won't be able to use it. The big cars didn't use a bracket on the back and the studs are about 3-1/2" apart on a square pattern.:ball:
