Car forums are a wealth of information. I'm sure this one will be no different. I've recently picked up a 65 Skylark that's in pretty good shape. I pick it up tomorrow and I'll b sure to throw some pics up Details are: 65 Hardtop white ext/red int Bucket seats, console w/tach A/C PS Tilt Now sporting a 71 model Buick 350 2v More to follow...
Picked her up today. Car drives like an old car but made the 40 mile trip home. I put a bunch of pics in a folder and made it public. Hope this goes through... https://goo.gl/photos/8FwM6z4KENUWEPVA9
Oh snap, I didn't realize you're from Hazard. I'm in Anderson county exactly 40 miles from the Ky state line down I-75. Ideally I'd like to make it to Somerset for one of their cruise inns. That and the wife has already mentioned the rod run in Pigeon Forge.
i go to the rod run every year both times. its a blast. i usually bring my truck as i don't know when my car will ever be done. ive never got to go the somerset i may try this year i hear its nice. ill pm you so we can shoot the bull when either comes around.
I didnt want to start a new thread just for updates but a few boxes have shown up. In the mean time I've been fixing little things here and there that are free or cheap. My starter was acting up and its almost as cheap to put a reman on it as it is to rebuild one so that has happened. I played around with the timing a bit and finally got it set but it still runs a little rough for my liking. I installed a set of mech guages, the standard Oil press, Temp and Voltage. I dont have a tach but at idle I'm seeing 18psi oil pressure at 195* Cold is upwards of 55psi but thats also above hot idle speed. BMR springs showed up yesterday, hope to get them in this weekend. I ordered a USA230 radio for a Buick that should be here any day so we can have some tunes now. The original AM turns on but nothing comes out. I really need to figure out what to do about my fuse block. I pulled it off the firewall and tried to clean it but the grease or whatever it was has hardened into some type of hard black stuff that is like glue. The only way to get a fuse out is to break it into pieces with a small flatip screwdriver. I've replaced most of them and wire brushed, sanded some of the affected areas. I guess it just takes time. Thats about it for now. I've got my eye on the FITECH system and am really thinking about pulling the trigger on that. I can use it now on my SBB but also on a BBB if I ever finish the one on the stand in the garage.
Trusty wagon says hi! (Re: East Tennessee with a 65 Skylark) Dear Russ and 1965 Buick fans, Glad to hear that you've made some progress on your 1965! :TU: If you feel like making that radio look much closer to stock you could look at the "mods" I did to my Custom Autosound 630: http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?268438-FYI-Custom-Autosound-mods-for-improved-authenticity I know that FiTech system is very popular, but you might want to take a look at systems that allow for some manual control over the tuning. I went with the FAST Sportsman system: http://www.fuelairspark.com/fas/xfi-sportsmantm-throttle-body-engine-control-systemhtml/ It is more work to get a great tune, but my impression is that so far self-tuning cannot be great. I'm very impressed with the tune I've eventually gotten for my trusty wagon! You've got a big-block and are even askin' . . . . :3gears: Wouldn't you really rather have an engine that looks like this! Not tempting you or anything . . . Cheers, Edouard :beer
David, I'm in Anderson county just north of Knoxville. Edouard, I'd be happy with that but my bank account and wife say otherwise. That's part of the appeal of the FItech system. It's not perfect but it's a great bang for the buck.
If you have to go "stock." (Re: Greetings from East Tennessee with a 65 Skylark) Dear Russ, David, Erik, and V-8 Buick fans of "stock" . . . . . . . Well, I guess in a situation like this, it is also important to keep your Buick as close to a stock appearance as possible! . . . . Cheers, Edouard :beer
