yes they are not that hard, just go slow and use heavy feed, dont get to hot or you will work harden the bolt then you will never be able to drill it, stainless fasteners are the ones that can be a real pain, if you dont know what you are doing
bolt drilling made easy If you ever have a bolt or any metal for that matter that you can not drill, go to the hardware store and get a carbide tipped masonry drill. You will need to sharpen it a little because they are not intended to drill metal and come fairly dull. The carbide tip is very tough and will cut almost any metal unless it is extremely hard. Also, since the body of the drill is steel, it is not as prone to breaking off in the hole. Randy
Grade 8 is not that hard to drill. I tend to drill a pilot hole about the same size as the web of the main drill I'd be using. To completely drill out a 3/8 bolt, I might use a 5/16 drill bit. Depending on the manufacturer of the 5/16 drill bit, I might first drill an 11/64 hole, nicely centered, in the bolt. The larger 5/16 bit will tend to follow the pilot hole. For an EZ-Out application, you don't need to drill as large a hole, and you won't need to go all the way through.
