Not really a kill story so I thought I would post this in the bench section.

Today was a nice day and I had to work on my sons car, so I decided to take the GS out to the local Parts store to get the parts. I pull in and my and buddy was there in his 70 AMX along with one of his friends in a 69 Javelin buying stuff for their kids rides also. SO I get my parts and we are shooting the breeze in the parking lot when this 69 Camaro comes in. He has a high rise cowl induction hood(a good 6-8 inch high), he is tubbed and it sounds mean. So he gets out of the car and I yell over to him that he could make his car faster if he would put a Honda type R decal on it. He starts to laugh, looks at my car (I am leaning against my fender) and looks over the AMX and Javelin. He wanted to know what I had in mine so I told him a 455. He says thats cool but he never had any trouble taking a Buick. So we are still BS'ing and I move away from the fender and he sees the Stage 1 emblem and he says that I didn't mention it was a Stage. I said its still a 455, he says no way, I don't play with those babies, I read about them on the "internet"

Needless to say, he was a cool guy, we shot the breeze some more and we all went our way. Now his car was really hopped up, I don't know what he had under the hood, we ended up meeting at the red light and I waved over and he says not against a Stage car. Man I love that internet!!!!

We all drove sensibly down the highway, but man I had a big grin on my face the whole way home.

Just figure I let you guys know the "power" of the internet!!! :Brow: :3gears:

That's a great story and I hope to have as much fun as you soon. Is your Stage 1 stock? I have a good condition stock SF 1970 455 in my 71 GS convertible and I am wondering just how much faster (true apples to apples) a Stage 1 is compared to a stock 455. Is it noticable?

Not stock, but not really hopped up like the Camaro was. Its 030 over, SPS1 cam, headers, 2500 stall converter, x pipe and a warmed over carb. Don't know how much faster over a non stage car (don't imagine that much faster-a lot depends on the driver also) but I know when I put the headers on and had the carb worked on that it really woke up the motor.

When you put that 455 in yours, you will really notice the difference from the 350. The Buick 350 is no slouch either, but the 455 will give you a seat of the pants difference when you stomp on it.

Saw the pics of your car and motor via your link--looking good!!!!

I just think it's funny the way some people think ( like the guy in the Camaro)... he was scared by the Stage 1 badge, but you ( and SO many others) don't have a legitimate Stage 1, because your car is faster. As you know, it's fairly simple to make a car really fast... it just takes a few dollars. On the other hand, the emblems are available everywhere, so it doesnt make sense that he was scared of you, unless he knew you. :bglasses:

Don't get me wrong.. if your car was/is a Stage 1, the badges are awesome, and I would be impressed too. But, I'm guessing you could take a stock Stage 1 pretty easily, and who knows if the Camaro could too... Maybe you could get some Stage 2 badges if you want to...

    Prolly not!!!!!

Nah, don't know the guy, he was friendly though. Yep, I have a real Stage 1 but I dont think I would buy Stage 2 stickers, cause it ain't, BUT I guess the emblems would be cheaper than having mods done to the motor if that is all it took :Brow:

Heck his car had Z28 emblems on it, and I can pretty well assume it was not a small block 302 under his hood, but I could be wrong.

Heck there are more 454 SS's on the road now than what was produced.

Drop that 455 in yours and keep your stock badging, then you can have some real fun with people.

    Take it easy :TU:
