I hear you Tom, it didnt get warm to the touch before shut down, probably sounded like I was really reving it up because of the fan noise. Tomorrow with coolant the plan is to run it up for 20 mins and let it cool and torque it up.

Thanks for the input buddy! I hope all will be well, or back to the drawing board! Sure sounded good in person tho.

Rob,I'm glad that was only water, and speaking of water, usually when I fire a engine for the first time to break-in the cam,I will fill it with plain water to make sure there are no leaks anywhere before putting any kind of chemical coolants in.

This is a "just in case" precaution, but easier to get plain water out of the crankcase than it is to try and get anti-freeze out,and easier to clean off the floor also.(just in case)

And h_ll yeah it sounded good!!

    Derek,

yeah, I was planning on clear water for the run in, seems like a good way to get one final flush of the cooling system then finally go with the coolant.

    Doc,

Yes, this is a good one, the vid was take one on the camera. :kodak: It rotated about half a turn and lit off. I went with the pertronix and just wanted to make sure the dist was right on and everything was good to go for the run in today.

    Outstanding job Rob! :TU:

Gosh, but your Riv GS certainly looks well optioned to boot. It even has the dim and bright headlight Guide Matic thingy on top of the dash. I hope it has all of the goody options that were available in the day like the cruise control and four note horn with the huge trumpet shaped C note horn!

Love your Super Wildcat Riv GS! :TU:

Did the run up today, all went fine. No Leaks, no Knocks. OP was 40 at rpm, 25 at idle at operating temp. never got over 182 on the temp, so far so good, dumped the break in oil and filter and put in some joe gibbs 10-30 oil. hit the key and it just starts, its just like the original cam wise, a little lope at idle. Maybe Ill get to drive it tomorrow after I get it all torqued up and back together.

Thanks for all help, observations, and comments thus far, all you people are a wonderful source of knowledge. :TU:

    Hello Doc,

Being a boy from the northern Minnesota lake country, I feel right at home here in Louisiana. Plenty of lakes and rivers for both states, although Minnesota has no bayous. The summers are tough down here though, it is still too bloody hot and humid. So hot in fact, I hardly drive my Riv in the summer.
