Anybody use Google Voice? Maybe I am out of the loop, but I just came across it a couple days ago. After reading about it, and setting it up, my first thoughts were "this would be perfect for Craigslist".

    www.google.com/voice

It's great, especially with Craigslist. I never list my phone number on Craigslist due to the weirdos and spammers. So, instead, my email gets loaded with garbage from either scammers, spammers, or those not really interested in what I have to sell.

With Google Voice, you get a new phone number that is forwarded to your current cell phone. Your current number still works just the same as always, but your new number will also ring on your phone. Only those that you give the number to will call you on that number. Anybody else that knows you by your current number will still call that number. In other words, you have 2 phone numbers that will ring the same phone.

When someone calls you, Google Voice will ask them for their name. Then, when you answer, it will tell you that "you have a call from ______. Press 1 to accept, or 2 to decline this call".

    With GV, I can:
    • screen my calls to be sure that the call I am recieving is real or spam.
    • Record incoming calls by pressing 4 during the conversation.
    • Block any number I want.
    • Voicemails are saved as text in your inbox.
    • Send or reply to text messages from the keyboard.
    • Set it to not recieve calls after a certain time. For example, those buyers that call at 3:00am about a Buick ashtray that you have for sale. You'll have a record of the missed call, and any message they left so that you can call them at a more convenient time, rather than waking up because of the call.

Pair this with Craisglist, and you don't have to give out your phone number to strangers. There's more features, but best of all, it's free.

This is not a plug for Google Voice. I am posting this for the sake of security when dealing with people on Craigslist for those of us that sell items on Craigslist.

Haven't heard of it before, but it sure sounds interesting. Will keep it in mind (for when it comes available here). Thanks for explanation and sharing.
