goofy intake issues and electric choke

as most of you know I'm putting a 4bbl on my 350 since I thought the 2bbl needed rebuilding.

went to remove the 2bbl from the intake so I can put the impact gun on the bolts. I was able to remove the bolts with my fingers that held on the carb. that was shocker number 1.

Pulled the carb. It is a 71 model carb. my buick is an early 70 model though. either carb craped out and replaced or diffrent engine. need to check serial on block to verify. shocker number 2

while putting on the new intake got the intake bolted on went to reconnect the vacuum line to the trans. and it just fell out from under the car. crawled underneath. badly cracked rubber hose at the trans. shocker number 3.

went to pull out the vacuum advance from the carb. i pulled out the brass tube pressed into the carb. shocker number 3.

Makes me wonder how strong this car will run with the new additions.:TU:

OH!! as many of you know Carbs Unlimited doesn't sell an electric choke conversion for many of your older cars. (they didn't have one for my 70 carb) I picked up the chebby one to see if I can get it to work. the chevy pushes up to close the choke. while the Buick pulls down to open the choke. (i may have those backwards as I write this) The fix.... open the "motor" carefully, pry the slot cut in the middle open pull out the motor coil. and turn around (so the front side out is now further in the case)(like fliping a coin) squeeze the slot closed.
now the neat thing.. the coil radius (from where the linkage goes and the center of the coil) is about .75 inch. this is the same from the distance from the center pivot of the choke and factory location. I took a rod used black (hi temp) silicone and sorta glued in a streight piece of linkage about .75" long and let try (shoulda have used a 4-40 screw with a nut on it though....)

I made a plate to cover the old choke opening with a steel electrical box cover.

now.. line up the center of the choke pivot on carb and the new "motor"

on mine I only needed a 1/4" spacer to raise the choke coil to line up.

I now have an electric choke.

    Nate.

I always hated :blast: chokes. I just like to press the gas a bunch I guess :pp

Yeah chokes are overrated...unless you live in any state above Texas.

It's hard to get a choke right...I worked on that LeSabre for a month off and on trying to get it right.

Nate, how long before you get it running??

I just pulled the intake and drivers head off my car to change the gasket. POS blew on me yesterday. No wonder I was going through so much anti-freeze:Dou:

    she's all buttoned up.

she's all buttoned up just need to mount and connect my gauges and change the fluids (antifreeze in oil and more antifreeze.)

and set the carb and choke.

i rejetted it and put new primary and secondary rods quite a bit smaller.

hopefully it will run correct. though i still have single exaust.... so it is still pretty restricted.

it should be running this weekend.

Yeah talk about anti-freeze in the oil. I just pulled both heads off to do a stage1 conversion on them and I probably have over a gallon of coolant in the oil pan.:gt:

Hopefully the car will be back up and running by a week or 2 from now.
