I just got my tranny rebuilt and while test driving the mechanic said the car lacks power. 57 roadmaster. What would your advice be and where should I start first. I haven't yet driven the car because its at the exhaust shop now I'm going off of his exam. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

I just got my car back from the exhaust guy and what do you know BAD NEWS. My gas tank has a hole in it. So no exhaust for me...Good ol Hagerty would not tow it from a shop only if i was stranded. I tried to tell them that it had a hole in the tank but they still would not do it. They said if I run out of gas then they will. Smart ones. Anyway the car ran real sluggish taking off. A lot of clicking in the motor but when I put it in park I dont here a thing it just ran fine. where should I start?

Timing? This will change when you have the exhaust installed.

I agree...sounds like the timing may be way advanced! It's a logical starting place anyway. Was the car running alright before you brought it to the tranny shop? If so, check to see if the distributor is secure. If not, it may have gotten bumped & turned (advancing your timing) while in the shop.

the car has been sitting for years. I don't doubt whats wrong with it. I will have it looked at by someone who knows more. Thanks for the input.

    sitting car

Leon, first thanks for your service to our country. :TU: If the car has been sitting for years, check the vacume diaphragm assembly on the distributer, it most likely has dry rotted and wont hold a vacume any more. this will cause a loss of power. also check and lube [vaseline] the mechanical advance in the dist.
