I have a chance to pickup what appears to be a 70 455 block & heads locally. The plans are to build up around 600 Hp TA Aluminum headed motor. I have heard that the later 74-76 blocks are stronger but I'm not sure if this comes into play with my needs. Since I'm not going to run the iron heads that come with this motor should I search for another later block ?

    Thanks

This is just my personal opinion, but any 455 Buick core you run across is worth getting. If nothing else you can use it for trading. They are getting too hard to come by, so when you stumble across one you should latch onto it if at all possible.

The 70 block is fine. I just open up the oil passages in the early blocks and go form there. I would'nt worry so much about the block for what you want to do. It will be more than sufficient. Jim Burek
