I have been doing quite a bit of internet searching since I purchased my 1940 Buick Eight coupe looking for a good resource to help me with whatever roadblocks I may encounter. You all seem like a very knowledgeable group. The car (Unfortunately at this time I don't have a picture) has been converted to a street rod. It has a '72 camaro frame, and a '68 Buick drive train. I was looking for a car to run on the drag strip and ran into this car. I fell in love with the look and now want to build it. I'm sure this project will span years, but nothing ventured nothing gained. The car currently has a 283 4bbl in it and recently some friends gave me a 68' Buick Electra that has a 430-4 in it. I am planning on putting this engine in the car this winter. Any suggestions or "watch out fors"?

If the engine needs an overhaul the 455 parts may be cheaper and more are available to make more power. So you may come out better in an overhaul situation getting a donor 455 core and going from there. If it does not need that kind of attention you cannot beat a free donor 430's price.

Welcome! Your car sounds really cool, post pictures when you can. I'm glad to hear you are keeping it Buick powered as well. :TU:

The 430 has 45K on it and runs well. My plans are to get it to fit and help to get the frame and suspension in order. The car currently has the original coil springs in the rear which seems to make it unstable when hitting bumps, hard accelleration, or hard wind. I have considered putting in(for now) air bladders inside the coil springs to add stability. Any suggestions for suspension?
