Not a Buick part, in case you are curious. :)

So, he wants me to send the newlyweds the $700.00 also?

    "Dear 1970455riv,

Hi, my good friends are having a wedding in few days and I'd like to make a surprise for them. I'd like it to be your table lamp in a gift wrap with a card inside for a bride. Also I'd like to send $700 via Western Union to them as an additional part of my present 'cause they are going to take a travel during the honey month. I want to make them surprised and doesn't want them to know the present is from me. I am looking for a seller who could help me with that. I will pay for your table lamp, packaging, express shipping and WU fees of course. They live in Ukraine, not in the USA. Please let me know if you could help me with my present. I want you to ship everything to them directly and to send the money present via WU either. I could even pay for your time and assistance let's say $150 - I think it should be enough. For quick replies from my palm please respond from your email address directly - not through ebay. Thanks for your replay."

    HA,HA, I don't think so.
It has the tell tale sign of poor spelling also.

I'd tell him sure, no problem. The minute I have the CASH payment up front for the lamp, the $700 and the $150 fee. I'd love to help him out. Somehow I don't think that's what he had in mind though. Idiot.

I'd say, "Sure. Overnight me an American Express Money Order for $700, Also send a separate American Express Money Order to cover the cost of the lamp, plus the packaging and shipping, plus the $150. I'd say $500 US would cover it. And after I cash the check I'll box up the lamp and YOUR ORIGINAL American Express Money Order for $700 and ship it off to Ukraine."

I wonder what kind of a scam he is trying to pull? Does the buyer have any feedback?

    Lamps and stupidity

Wow, I wasn't aware there was a lamp shortage in the Ukraine. Sad. Tell him you'll help the newlyweds light up their marriage, you'll donate it free if he comes and picks it up from you personally at your local police station. Heck, can't turn down a free lamp.

My guess is he'll say no thanks...

    Huh,
I looked him up in the ebay member search and he has a 100% feedback with 37 transactions under his belt. Member since Jan. 2002.

I emailed him through ebay, (not to his palm pilot like he asked) and turned down his offer. [IMG]

It strikes me odd that a potential buyer would put so much faith in a seller to follow through on anything more than the item transaction.
I'll drop ship it anywhere he wants it shipped to. But do not want to be responsible for $700.00 in additional funds.
He can easily ship it anonymously himself.

I just had a similar SCAM problem with a car on EBay. Winning bidder was the "buyer" for a "client" who ships items to Africa because of there poor economy, the "client" was going to send me the winning auction amount, and money to cover shipping the car and that amount was determined by the "buyer", then after I received the money via Cashiers Check, wire transfer thru Westen Uniuo the shipping money to the "buyer" who now owns the shipping company based in Nigeria, "20 Harley Way", was the shipping address, ha ha. So the SCAM is bogus cashiers checks, that pass your bank, you get the cash, stupidly wire the money off, and the SCAMMERS make out, the bank finds out check was bad, and your responsible! Be careful! I contacted EBay, they couldn't verify the "user", and thought it was a SCAM. Not really sure the "safe way" to get the money anymore.

It's amazing that there are fools that want to make people believe their side of the story and rip you off in the process. It's like the old saying "I was born at night, but I wasn't born last night".

    I agree,what an idiot. :spank:

    hacked ebay account

i got $5.00 that says thats a hacked account. often times when you see ebayers with under 100 fb making offers like that, these are hacked accounts of the people who have replied to a scam email asking them to click the link and log in for " fraud protection " or to " verify " their account.

study the fb, if someone has only bought games etc, and then all of the sudden they are selling a restored muscle car for $ 9000.00, with pre-approved bidders only, free shipping to your door in 7 days via lufthansa air, with a total satisfaction guarantee, then you know its a scam. they also use these accounts to do " buy it now " on an auction, only to then make these too good to be true offers to sellers.

matter of fact, since it said to email them at crooksdotcom, instead of through ebay, i got $ 100.00 that says its a hacked account.

remember folks, ebay and paypal will never email you to ask for your info. they already have it.

I bet you are right Henry.
I should at least report this to ebay just in case.
I know I would be grateful if someone did the same for me.
The true account holder may not be aware of it.

i have emailed one or two sellers because i felt certain their accounts had been hacked. i recall one who replied that they never listed any car, and had no idea how the auction got started. it happens every day.

if you use the " ask seller a question " feature, you should reach the real account holder, unless the scammer has changed the email contact info after they hacked the account. some scammers do change the email contact info right after they hack the account, some do not.

ebay does not seem all that concerned with stopping these people. they do end the scam listings once they've been reported, but preventing them from ever being listed in the first place doesnt seem to be a big priority.

ebayers, click on community, then discussion boards, then read the forums like, ebay motors, misc, feedback, technical issues, animals, etc, and if you need lots of political rants, check out the soapbox. theres tons of good advice and info there,
( and some not so good ). you can log in there, and ask and reply to questions from other ebay members, and sometimes ebay staff. i do recommend a posting I.D. though if you want to get political. especially if you are a seller. the posting id is not so important if you only buy.

Henry I would bet the farm on your reply. You are most likely correct...but being me, I would definately palm pilot him back saying OK. Mail some Monopoly money $700 to be exact, and the above product that I quoted to the address asked. Instructions inclosed that they can wrap the play money around the poop after the poop dried out and they can burn it in a dish thus giving him some light that he so wishes from a lamp.

flaming poop, ha ha, thats better than they deserve.

i have read on ebay motors forum that you can actually sell the bogus cashiers checks on ebay. if you dont mind playing with them, you can make the scammers spend a few bucks to overnight the bogus check, then after you get it, list it on ebay. i doubt they bring much, and i dont know if the ones being listed have already been processed at the bank, and been declared bogus or not. sounds like a fun way to scam the scammers, but i wont be doing it.

edit: i suppose if the bogus check had the image of the virgin mary on it, you could get big bucks for it.
