The other day my buddy hooked up jumper cables backwards on my 71 GS Stage 1, after telling him he was lucky i didnt kill him dead, i started chasing my obvious electrical problems that ensued. It fried the battery and alternator, (somehow the solenoid is fine) and melted the lead wire from the alternator to the solenoid and to a relay on the firewall. I have fixed everything i can find on the car, the alternator is charging, but my generator light is still on, like im losing some of the charge somewhere. I also changed the voltage regulator. If i walk away from the car for a couple of days the battery drains dead, so i unplug the ground at night so it will stay charged. What am i missing? Thanks. :Do No:

Wiggle your key while it is in the ignition switch. Does the dash light ever go out?

Even if it does not I suspect either the switch that is activated by the ignition key or wiring associated with it perhaps in the steering column.

Mine stayed on after i disconnected my battery, but after i put it on driver and drove for a bit, it went away.
