my gen light stays on even with the ignition locked and key out.

I replaced a battery in April , and it de-charged it so it will wu\ not take a charge.

New battery but light still remains on. Is there a short , I think so . Likely where to look, any clues ?

    thanks

Take the positive wire off the battery post and put a volt meter in the line from the post to the clamp. Are you reading 12 volts? Sounds like you have a regulator with the "field" points welded together. JMHO... (that battery may be under warranty; dont mention charging issues!) ws

my key lock cylinder is kinda jankey.

will a bad diode in the alternator show up on a test at the auto parts store ?

    thanks for all responses.

Yea a bad diode in alternate will cause the light to stay on. But I had to replace voltage regulator for the light to go out.
