Hi I've got a rear-end out of a '66 GS, it's an 8.2 10 bolt with posi 390 gears. I also have a ring and pinion gear set out of a 8.2 10 bolt that are 3.55 ratio. My question: will the 3.55 ring and pinion gear set fit with the 390 carrier (because I'd like to use the 3.55 gears in my car rather than the 390)?

    Thanks for any information. Don.

    According to CHP article:

"These are 10-bolt posi carriers. On the left is the three-series carrier; notice the mounting flange is in a different position relative to the center of the case than the two-series carrier on the right. On an 8.5-inch carrier, the three-series carriers are designed for all gear ratios from 2.73 and numerically higher, while the two-series works only with 2.56 and numerically lower gears. This is because as the gear ratio gets numerically lower, going from a 4.11 to a 2.73 for example, the pinion gets larger. Because of this, the ring gear must be moved away from the center of the housing. Conversely, as the ratio gets numerically higher (2.73 to 4.11), the pinion gets smaller and the ring gear must be moved toward the center of the housing."

It should work since its in the 2.73+ category, but the article is referring to an 8.5 so I cannot verify.

    Thanks for the info,
But I know that on a BOP 8.2 carrier that 2.73,3.08,3.23 all fit on the same carrier. And that the 3.36,3.55,3.73 all fit on the same carrier. I'm hopping to find out that 3.90 gears work with the same carrier as the 3.55.

YES, on an 8.2 BOP 10 bolt the low ratio carrier starts with 3.36 & goes through 5.57.

    8.2 BOP mid ratio carrier excepts 2.93, 3.08, & 3.23 gearing.

8.2 BOP high ratio carrier is limited to 2.56 & 2.78 gearing.

    Got Posi?
