Looking for some recommendations. Went to buy some gear oil for the rear diff. It looks like everything 80-90 is already set for use in limited slips. At least they say so. Should I still use a 4oz. bottle of additive with the 2 quarts of oil or would that be too much since they already have some in them? Look for oil that doesn't have additive and just do it the regular way? I don't want to trust that the oil alone has enough additive but I don't want to overdo it either.
can't go wrong going the old school route - 75w-90 + additive. I just did mine using Lucas and Trans-x products - all quiet and smooth :TU:
I use Valvoline 80W/90 with one bottle of GM additive. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000CCM5YA http://paceperformance.com/i-513370...traction-axle-lubricant-additive-4-fl-oz.html
That's exactly what I bought. Just wasn't sure if the extra additive was needed since the Valvoline bottle says it isn't. Thanks for the confirmation.
I'm just guessing here, but i would imagine it would have a greater tendency to get into the axle tubes and maybe overwhelm the seals a bit. Might make a little extra drag also? Fill it till it just drips out of the fill hole.
OK:grin: I guess it might make the posi slip a bit, make it less effective. I know Eaton doesn't recommend synthetic fluid with their positraction rears for that reason.
