I'm having some funky problems with my gauges on my 70 GS, the factory temp gauge pegs hard to the cold side when I turn on the key but when I turn it off it moves over to show what I think is the actual engine temp uzzled: as the car cools with the key off the temp gauge goes down slowly. For some reason my aftermarket temp gauge has stopped working, it's never had a problem. The best part is that the factory oil pressure gauge acts like a vacuum gauge, when I hit the gas it pegs hard to high and when I let off it goes hard to lowou: Now I haven't had it hooked up for years as I have an aftermarket oil pressure gauge that work fine of course. Now the only change I've made was to install a new ignition system...Ignitionman Mag trigger only distributor, MSD 6AL, MSD 8200 coil. And trashed my accell super coil and balast resistor. The MSD was a simple install (red to pos battery, black to neg battery, orange to pos coil and black to neg coil and small red to the ignition wire) and works Great. Does this sound like a ground problem??? :spank: :3gears:
This sounds like a gauge being triggerted by a sender intended for lights. Check the voltage and grounds to these gauges, then check the senders; be sure they are intended for gauges. Ray
Thanks for the reply Ray, I did finally fix it the other day and right you are. Connecting the proper wire to the factory temp sending unit fixed that and actually grounding the firewall ground strap stopped the oil pressure gauge from bouncing all over...As for the aftermarket mechanical temp gauge...Well I'd rather not sayuzzled: ou: , all I can say is one to many Crown and 7's!:beer
