I recently got my 68 GS 400 back on the road.Last winter I had it painted and also got the undercarriage detailed.I had pulled the drivetrain and gas tank, but had the paint shop reinstall all that for me.Anyway they did a great job,she looks great and runs even better.Yesterday here in Chicago was the first warm day I've had her out for a drive and I filled up the gas tank before I went home and parked it in the garage.A couple hours later I went into the garage and it stunk of gasoline,I looked under the car and sure enough there was a puddle under the gas tank.I jacked it up and started looking around with a flashlight and found the leak.On the top front passenger side of the gas tank is a 3"long fuel hose plugged at one end and connected to the tank at the other end. It's leaking where it's connected to the top of the gas tank. Before I tighten it up,I was wondering if this hose is correct?should it be longer to act as an air chamber for expansion/contraction in the tank?Or is it the wrong tank?Or should the hose be connected to something else? :Dou:
    Thanks
    Tom

Sounds like your vent hose for a closed system. I believe a 69-70 had about a two foot hose attached there and it came forward and then turned straight up. It was held against the body by a built in clip and topped with a surge tube. A 68 may have used the same set up. There are some 698 pros on the Board.
