I have one it's called a adjustable jaw wrench. AKA a crescent wrench...... Back in the 80's I did some furnace retro's.... In other word take out the old red tagged furnaces and replace with new....

This is not the way it’s suppose to happen. Who put air against the regulator to damage it? The plumber or the gas tech? From the pics posted this wasn’t a bad job, not sure why she was getting the run around. 1 hour of work and the source could have been isolated. The piping to the tankless water heater looks good so there couldn’t have been to much else to examine that wasn’t accessible and could have been easily done correctly with a simple air test. Gives the craft a bad name. I’m seeing more n more commercials on tv proclaiming the contractor is honest and knowledgeable . Have we really gotten to the point where we have to proclaim our honesty etc . Shouldn’t it just be a given that the contractor is honest? It’s becoming the new norm I guess

I honestly can't see with your pictures that the job being more than 600$...

My big question is who saw the leak the soap bubbles???????? I don't think there was a leak. Why was the gas Co there from the beginning....... The gas company can NOT tell if your pipes are leaking by just looking at the meter.......

They claim to have seen a pressure drop on the line when they pulled the meter out. Seems more and more like a scam to me.

U can clock a leak on the meter depending on its severity by using the 1/2 or 1/4 foot hand on the index. Typically a small leak would be found by using an inch gauge at wc pressure. If they noticed a pressure drop it’s not a scam. What does the gas tech have to gain other than not being sued when the house explodes ? With he or she being the last competent person to touch it they are responsible as well as the company and are liable when the s—t hits the fan. Sounds like some errors were made but not sure it was intentional. At least I hope not. But that dosent make up for the $4500 out of pocket bill. That hurts

Yeah, plumbers are expensive. I’ll trade you. I just received an estimate to repair a broken sewer line and a cracked junction and about 12 feet of pipe. $7125! This is after $19,000 to level the house.

Rent a MegaPress and install the line yourself, you can have a gas guy make the final connections.

Union journeyman plumber pay in DC local (commercial work) is $50/hr. plus benefits. Throw in OT &/or some side work & easy $150k/yr.
