    Hi All,
While preparing to repaint and reseal the floor pan, one of the gas pedal pivots snapped off. I have found and ordered 2 Nos pivots. Is it possible to access the snapped bolt from under the car and vice grip it out backwards? or an I drilling it out.

    Thanks, Gary

Should be a welded on nutplate.

The stud should be easy enough to remove since there is no load on it and it looks like it is new enough not to be corroded (and stuck).

If the stud was long enough, you should have threads extending out the bottom of the nutplate.

If you have some acetone, mix 50/50 with ATF and apply some, then try the vice grips on the bottom.

If you do need to drill, take the other stud and then use the hole in the floor to index the correct drill bit, and go real slow.

Often, the drill bit will bind in the stud and it will turn.

That small, it might be hard to locate and EZ-out that small locally.

Thanks, I'll give that a try. I can't complain, all the seat bolts came out without issue. It's really the first bolt that snapped since I've had the car! Have to make holes and spacers for the buckets on the tunnel side, but that shouldn't be too tough.

Is that nutted plate spot welded to the floor? Mikes on the right track. Since the rugs' out soak it with PB Blaster or 50/50 acetone/ATF Just a few drops!! Then make it hotter than heck and try to unscrew(DOWN!) from the bottom. Use some "sharp" vise-grips. If you hafta drill, I am guessing those studs are 1/4-20s, center punch (!!!!) and use a 3/16 drill bit. If yer lucky the drill will bite and run the stud out the bottom, and if not, youll hafta use a tap. 3/16 is pretty close to the drill size. I think the drill chart is actually a 7/32" OR a #7 drill bit... just from memory mind you! The smaller drill bits are usually the busted ones LOL...

A little trade secret here: try tightening a "smidge" before going into a full blown loosening cycle. Even back and forth a few times does wonders. Especially on exhaust manifold bolts. ws

Thanks for the underhood pic! helps a lot. The other stud came out like nothing, so I'm hopeful I can back it out. If not, I recently replaced me smaller drill bits 'cause as you say , they're always the ones that break.

Since you have the carpet out already just use some heat from a propane torch or something similar. Heat the surface around the broken stud & NOT the stud. If soaked previously with acetone/ATF mixture when it starts to smoke twist the broken piece out.

Thanks for all the tips. I did turn wrenches for 43 years with the first 25 in The "Rust Belt"(Montreal). Snapped studs aren't a problem and I will try to back it out first. If not, I will drill and tap. More of an issue is the car is on a tiny piece of pavement at a 20% drivers side down. Not ideal for jacking it up to get at the bolt from behind. It will have to wait until the drivers bucket is in, then I can drive it to flatter pavement.

Heck... with the seat out you can lay down and get comfy... center punch it and drill it from the top. Go buy a left hand drill bit. A 1/8 RH bit for an accurate pilot, then a 3/16 LH for the tap. Maybe itll back out.

Vise grips from underneath as a last resort. Buggered up threads and itll hafta continue down to come out... ws
