So, I just moved into a house I'm renting. Landlord had a plumber come the other day to light the pilot on the gas boiler as the gas company couldn't get it to light when they came to turn on the gas. I knew it was old. Its a Burnham, I think. Well, I asked the plumber just how old it was. He said 1950's! He had to replace the thermocouple and he said that is about the only part left on the thing that could be replaced. Can anyone guess how efficient a 50 year old gas boiler can be? I'm getting a little worried on what my gas bill is going to be.

The only other thing I know is that the aquastats are set between 110 and 130. Doing a quick read online, new boilers seem to be set more in the 150-180 range. Is that how they were set in the 50's.

hmmm, I opened this post thinkin I could help. Turns out I can't! My gas boiler is over 90 years old, so your sounds new to me. As far as the temp goes, each is different you would have to do some reading online.
