Has anyone had any experience with "U-Coat it" garage floor covering ? ? I want to snazz up the floor in my shop this year and have seen a few different flooring ideas but I would like to hear any suggestions if you guys have any !?!? Any info on "U-Coat it" or other styles would be appreciated !
"UCoat It floors repel oils, chemicals, and other household and personal products" What exactly do they mean by "personal products?" Looks good tho..lol
After talking to the U-Coat-It guys at the World of Wheels in Feb., we started looking for something similar. We found something this weekend just like it at Home Depot. It's made by Rust-Oleum. It's called Epoxy Shield Garage Floor Coating. Jeff
n2buick said: I used this on my garage floor last summer(used the "industrial" version) and would highly recomend it. The most important thing is getting you floor cleaned well first.
We sell the Rusto-leum Epoxy floor kits at Menards where I work. We have had nothting bu good praise for it from our customers. They make different kinds, basement, garage (oil and chemical resistant), and industrial (oil and chemical resistant, will also stand up to heavy forklift traffic) We sell them for about $38, $48, and $78 respectfully.
it looks good:TU: we have the industrial floor coating on our floors at work, they look nice until you try to use a torch or weld then they get spark burn also the jack stands chip the coating and if you drop a hammer and it hits right it will chip. just my .02o No:
Now ready to paint my garage floor. Lowes has Rusto-leum epoxy kit covers 250 sq ft for $57.00. What is involved in floor prep? I have a new concete floor. Thanks for any information John
All of these products are merely airplane hangar paint. If you can use a 33 gallon drum of it, it's probably much cheaper. Maybe we could all share a drum.
You need to talk to the paint specialist about which primer to use. I just used the Home Depot stuff on the new garage we put in. Worked hours on preping the floor. The Home Depot paint guy said no primer was needed, so we passed on it and just applied paint. Now, we have a mess. You can almost take your heel and scuff the paint off!!! $250 worth of paint, over a day of prep and painting time for a mess. Also, there is a test to try to make sure you have no hydro pressure seeping up through the floor after a given number of hours. The jug probably has the steps on it needed to perform the test. Ours advised 72 hours of drying time before tire or other heavy travel. Listen to them and stay off it if you want a good job. Good luck.
As a builder/remodeler, I recently did a two bay garage floor for a client. Talk to the people you purchase the floor coating from. We had to use a solution that had an acid in it. It actually cleans out all the pours in the cement so that the coating gets a good bite. And, follow the directions to the tee. If it says no walking on it for X amount of days, they mean it. In my case, the homeowner had picked up the paint. He had just bought a brand new E5004matic Mercedes and it was going to rain out. He put the car in the garage one day earlier than he was supposed to, and the paint slightly stuck to the wheels. Other than that, it has been down for about eight months and he swears by it. He purchased his from Sherwin Williams Paint. A guide to buying anything that i have learned is, if it is cheaper than the other brand, "It is cheaper than the other brand"
I have to throw my .02 in on this one, I used the home depo rust o leum kits on my new garage floor and I knew going in that surface prep would make or break the job. I was a nut about it and there's no way it could have been better preped. I also bought an extra kit so I could have plenty and not get thin anywhere. I wish I would have paid up for a pro to do it! Mine isn't a total mess but it hasn't stayed as perfect as my friends with the u-coat it floor. I think he paid about $400 more than I did but I wish I would have paid the extra$$$ou:
Bad experience with S. Williams Last summer I "stained/painted" my garage floor. I did the prep. as directed. Last week I did some spring cleaning and some of the paint started to pull up. My floor gets very little use. Has anyone looked in to the plastic blocks which measure 12" x 12". I might make a small runner in the high use areas.
Concrete Stain We also sell a Stain for concrete. Its called H&C, its a zylol based silicone acrylic (very potent, use only outdoors) very durable product. I'll have to check out if it can be used on a garage floor and double check the price and post back on here.
Eric, what did you find out? I'm planning to have my floor done pretty soon and don't see the silver bullet in here yet. Rustoleum seems to be okay in industrial version, U-Coat it seems to be okay too. But is that the case when I'll have painters put it down that rarely work on cement garage floors? Appreciate more suggestions here if anyone else who has experience would chip in. Thank you.
Mike, Eric is at work right now. I will call him and remind him. There will be an answer here tonight. He's been awfully busy. The other manager went on vacation, so he ended up doing something like 75 hours last week. I think he was just too damn tired to remember to look. Check back a little later. He should be on here in about 5 hours.
Just finished the floor today. Did it with my wife spreading the chips ( Just like the video). Easy job. I used muratic acid to clean and then used the citric acid supplied with the kit from Rust-0 -leum. Looks great. Used as directed and covered 500 sq. ft with 2 kits. $57.00.per kit from Lowes. Be sure that the floor temp is at least 55 degrees. Actually put a kerosene heater in to assure that the floor temp was above 55. Ambient temp above 60. Prep is the key.
good Thanks. I will do the same thing to my floor when the time comes. Please let us know if you have problems down the road. David
This can be put on garage floors, as well as any exterior masonry product. It sells for about $22 per gallon, will cover up to 250 sq feet and is available in about 30 collors. About the only drawback is that it requires 2 coats to obtain an even finish. We get this product through Dutch Boy paints so I would think that it would be available at any Dutch Boy dealer and whereas Dutch Boy is a subsidiary of Sherwin Williams it might be available at Sherwin williams stores as well. If anyone would like more info send me a pm and I will mail out a brochure for you.
