I hate those little glass fuses. They're a pain to get out when blown, i always end up breaking them.

Is there a company that makes replacement fuse boxes with the modern plastic push in fuses?

I think PAINLESS makes them but you may have to change your hole harness! I would bet you have alot of wiring issues with your car as I have owned my GS with original underdash harness for 11 years and have never blown a fuse! Maybe replace your underdash harness with a new correct repro from Factory Fit or M and H. They are very expensive however but worth it in the long term.

I found fuse blocks at JC Whitney(18 circuit-$23.00 + $6 S/H (for me)). Output terminals are spade connectors, Input is screw lug. I'm going to cover my firewall with brushed stainless steel, so, I have to remove all the wires that run through the firewall
to do the installation. Ain't no better time to upgrade my underhood wiring--some of which is 56 years old! I'll be ordering one Friday.

my buddie put a painless kit on his 71. the instructions are HORRIBLE and some of the wires are labeled incorrectly and the instructions are incorrect as well! make sure to note where everything goes and what everything needs. and do a sanity check before hooking up the wires, and verifying where they go. :Smarty:

I am pretty sure another Company called EZ2 Wire sells just the box. They are on ebay just look for one of their wiring kits and then look under "OTHER ITEMS" and look for them, They are like Painless but a little cheaper in price. I was thing of doing the same thing but electrical is not my strongest thing so I am a CHICKEN too dive into all of that wiring
    GOOD LUCK

  7. If you don't consider yourself at an advanced electrical level, please don't re-wire your fuse box. I'm not knocking anyone, but it would be best to take it to a shop or not do it than try to experiment.

I've considered doing that for a while, but figured I'd just go to a junk yard and find a fuse-block I like. If you know about electronics, it can't be that hard. If you don't, follow Joe's advice and have it done for you.

I'm in the middle of transplanting fuse boxes on my '65 Wildcat. Now, does anyone remember where the green wire goes? :Do No:

I thought I would just connect the green wire to itself. It should be ok as long as it has a 700amp fuse. Right? :Do No:

Things are good. The drive train is almost complete. The posi rear threw me a curve but I think that has been resolved. Hopefully, next week I'll pull the rest of the interior out. This rewire may take some time. I'm going to hardwire the power windows, power vents, power seats, door locks, alarm, and vintage air directly into the fuse box. That's going to require a lot of planning and all the components have to be purchased and their locations at least planned.

Ted's car(s) is(are) beautiful. Maybe someday I'll get up there north of the Mason Dixon line and take a look at all "Ya'lls" cars.

    How's the "Blue Streak" coming?

One of the best things you can do for your car is a total rewiring. I used EZ wire on my 70 Xlark, took about 40 hours but now I do not have to worry about old wiring catching on fire. Also have 18 circuits with modern fuses. The bad thing about EZ wire is the box does not look stock. Painless box is stock looking.

You will need a wiring diagram. I pulled all the old wiring out and layed it out on the floor. Labeled everything I could then worked backwords. It is not an impossible job. Just takes time.

    Very Slow Right Now!

Rick, Things are moving very slow right now! :Brow: :af: , I have not had the time to work on it as much as I want and need too, Seems every time I set time aside to work on it something comes up and changes my plan!
I am fighting with my Township codes enforcement for the new Garage I wanted to build. Also my Son came back from Iraq and We went down to Welcome him home so that burnt up two weekends, My oldest Daughter is moving into a apartment and that has tied me up going and looking at them (she wants her Daddy's to make sure things are safe) and My Youngest was looking at Colleges so that really used a lot of time up. So I really can't be mad about it because all of the reasons are good ones. Right now I am fighting with my new Grant steering wheel because my old one would not pass Pa.'s inspection laws. (way to many cracks in it) Which I understand, but the thing is that the metal ring that the plastic covers is not broken and I tried to fill in the cracks with some epoxy and still was shot down! So I am trying to figure this new wheel out! :Do No: :puzzled:
I am going to do the same thing that you are going to do and that is rip out out the old interior and put in some Nice Buckets and new carpeting and I will be making a custom console to go beyween the seats to hold my C.D. player and a few other neat little do-dads.........I could go n and on but I think I would use all of our bandwidth.... So if you can shoot me a P.M. with your Phone # because I need t ask you a few things...my old phone died and I lost your number,
Take care Buddy and GOOD LUCK with the wiring,
    Don

Don, ever think on making it a laced on leather wrapped steering wheel? they'd never know the diffrence.

btw. there is an adapter for a Grant wheel to a GM you need to get (if you don't know or have it already)

    Adapter

I got the adapter but I am not sure on how I connect the horn button? I am unsure of how it goes thru the adapter and connects? It really has me a little :puzzled: . I had a wrap around the wheel but it was not the type that closed up around it, So it is now in the Pa's inspection computer for failing due to unsafe steering wheel so I can't even take it to another place if I wanted too! Don't just hate computers!
I really do understand the safety issue but I think I got a Guy that was a little to picky.

I've got a Grant on mine during the rebuild process. The horn is on and working. I don;t recall the in's and out's of it, but I can take some pics if that will help.
