Obviously everyone with an older Buick is aware how limited the aftermarket support is. I was just sitting in my garage, thinkin' about my Invicta and that very same problem, when an idea suddenly hit me.

Wouldn't you theoretically be able to use suspension and chassis components for '59-'64 Impalas, since they and '59-'64 Buicks are both built on the B Body platform? They both are an x-frame design, both rear differentials use rear trailing arms w/an upper, and the wheel base is virtually the same.

If this would work it certainly opens up some possibilities. I wonder if a '59-'64 GM 8.2 rear would swap in :Brow: ? I got some figuring to do...

Buick used the torque tube design in 59 and 60. As far as I know this was a Buick only feature. Buick used an open drive shaft I think beginning the 61 model year.

Also the frame on a '59 Buick is not an X frame, it is a perimeter frame.

Ok, I guess I didn't realize the '59 was a perimeter frame w/a torque tube.

I know my '62 is an x-frame w/an open driveshaft. The rear axle setup is nearly identical to a '62-'64 Impala setup.

    Anyone else have any input?

    I have a 64 wildcat and a friend had a 64 bel air,we compared the chassis .

The belair is inferior to the wildcat in it's complete setup,so rear axle and the front is completly different .
Wildcat has the steering on the back of the cross member and belair on the front of it.
The complete front arms are diferent, upper and lower.

We sawwed the front end of the belair,if my friend still has it i will shoot some pics of it.(my friend still got it)

    here are the pics
