Quick question. I bought a fule pump for my 455 from Auto Zone. Not sure if this was a smart move. Anyway,I made the guy look all over the computer for a stage one fule pump and their was no fule pump or high proformance fule pump for a "STAGE ONE" motor, eccept for an electric fule which I dont want to use just yet. So I bought the fule pump for a '74 Riviera, I'm assuming its not anything special or high performance. What #'s does the stage one mechanical fule pump flow different from the regular fule pump? Do ya think it wall starve my motor of fule? My build up is;nt anything crazy but I dont want to put this pump on and waste time and money, ill just return it. My build is a '74 .0030 over block, 510 intake/490exhaust,800cfm,stock '70 intake n heads, and headders. ~vin

I think I saw a thread a few weeks ago where a guy got a stage 1 pump from autozone. Try a search, or look a few pages back on this forum. I'll look and see what I can find.

Does the pump you have have a small or large fuel canister??

It has a large canister and if this helps the part # is 40664
    Thanks

    That's a stage 1 pump.

Look on page 4 of this forum, thread title "stock fuel pump"

I would bet that all 455 pumps from parts stores are "stage 1" now.

I seen it, I think so too. but i just want make sure. I hate doing things twice or having a problem and streeing over what it coul be. If i can avoid any problems now, might as well get it done the right way. Just my way of working.... THANKS GUYS:beer

    Thread hi-jack:

The previous owner of this car blocked off the 3rd fitting on the mech pump. What is it for? It's smaller than the supply and output fitting.

Ah, I see I may have hijacked the wrong thread! From the other fuel pump thread, it looks like the smaller 3rd fitting that is blocked is a return.

Blocking off the return will give you slightly better fuel pressure. I installed a valve in my return line, so that I could shut it off at the track. I've never done any back to back runs to see if it makes any difference in the MPH.

So What you're saying is that I dont need the vapor return AT ALL? If thats the case I wont run the vapor return line on the car, this would save me alot of time bending and some cash:grin:
Is this a good idea? I thought the vapor return line was needed? at least for the gas tank right? Does'nt that need some kind of a vent?

The vapor return line keeps cool fuel constantly circulating between the tank and pump. It greatly reduces the chance of vapor lock. If you have a hot running 455, I would keep it.
