I was having a problem wit my fuel sending unit reading full. when it was grounded it worked fine so I pulled the tank and removed the unit I found a very small amount of corrosion under the brass connector where the metal strap connects with a star washer. I took a brass brush and cleaned it. I tested it before re installing and it worked fine. Just something else to check before you replace it.
