My buddy need some help but is not computer savy so I thought I would help him out. Question is : What size fuel return line should be used? Equipment: Stock style tank with sump welded in, Aeromotive Fuel pump, 1000hp holley , NOS 225 shot. The fuel system is set other than a good return fuel line, The sump has a second port to plumb in the return line to. Any thoughts :beer
Phil, -8AN for feed line and -10AN for return. However, the 2nd port on the sump is not for return, it's a second feed to the filter. Return line should be run to the top of the tank.
"-8AN for feed line and -10AN for return." Ok . . . dumb question here . . . why the larger line for return? Not that I'm doing it right, but I run a #8 or #6 line to the carb - depending on the carb setup that's on the engine at the time - a street driven roadster with 462" engine fwiw - and a #4 return line. In fact, the return line has a jet setup in it that cuts down return flow when using lower capacity fuel pumps. The bypass jet setup to mask a problem with too much fuel returning due to the large regulator that's on the engine. Granted, a smaller regulator could be used, but I like the large one and it's one less thing to change when running the larger carb setup.
I think that's what Barry Grant and other's tech departments will tell you also. Even the return on a stock Buick mechanical pump is larger than the feed line, right? I don't have the technical explanation but as soon as it's given I'll go, "Oh yeah!".
Nope, stock mechanical pump setup on the GS with big block is 3/8" feed and 1/4" return.... later Tim
you should run the same size or one size larger return than the feed. has to do with the liquid pressures going to the regulator and then returning to the tank.
