That doesn't act like a fuel pump. Think you've got a fuel bowl and/or accelator pump problem.

Putting an electric pump on your car is a band-aid. You need to locate the problem and fix it. I have driven at least 200,000 miles in '55 Buicks with stock fuel pumps and have had no problems. Get a fuel pressure gauge and find out what the pump is producing and compare it to factory specs. If the pressure is OK, the pump ain't the problem.

I believe the problem is in the carburetor. (Maybe, accelerator pump).

I'd have to agree; - if the carb is as old as the car, then there's a very good chance that the accelorator pump is shot. Modern fuels do wonderful things to old leather. The car comes off-idle and needs that boost the pump-shot gives it to get over the hump and speed up so it can suck down more. (pump loads in more fuel as the vacuum profile drops off when the butterflies on the bottom are opened up) Also, a bad pump may not apply enough pressure to properly atomize the fuel, resulting in raw gas dropping into the throats. Contrary to popular belief, raw gas doesn't burn well, it needs to be "misted" or properly atomized.

Also check your floats; if there's a lot of crud in the bowls then the floats will hang up and the carb won't fill up enough to allow for a full shoot when you nail it.

If the carb is also a fresh overhaul, or has been off recently, check for vacuum leaks.

After reading this again; I think 50's is on to it. Maybe it is both the accelerator pump and, the float.

The accelerator pump does not do anything while driving along at 40 mph or steadily increasing speed. I would check for a fuel supply problem such as a blocked fuel filter first. What happens if you have a partially blocked filter is the car will perform normally until it uses the fuel in the carburettor then it starves and loses power, if you back off the accelerator it needs less fuel and will refill the carburettor and drive OK again for a bit until it runs out of fuel again.

Have look at the coil----any signs of arcing, replace it. Good luck! I replaced two fuel pumps before I discovered that my (new) coil was defective!
