I've had an Holley electric pump on the car for years and want to switch back to a mechanical pump. When putting in a new fuel pump, should you put breakin lube on arm? TIA

I put some some lubriplate on it just for peace of mind

Or oil. Whatever you do, first turn the engine to TDC #1 compression. Take the cap off and make sure the rotor is pointing at #1 if you are unsure. The pump will bolt right in, no fuss, no muss. Otherwise, you'll be fighting the pump spring, a good way to strip out the threads in the timing cover.

Thank you for the tips. I would not have thought about checking that.

Yes, like Larry said if you have to fight the spring really at all, you are not at the compression stroke of TDC. When you are, it drops right in.

If you have a double roller timing chain.
Elongate mounting holes and push pump away from block.
    The arm will rub otherwise.

The pump needs to go forward, and not much, 1/16" will do it.

    True. That’s what I meant.
Robmcc pumps are already made to move forward.

I would open definitely 1/16 if not a smidge more.
Or just get his pump. Real nice piece.

The TA BBB covers already incorporate the pump mounting adjustment.
