I've searched this forum for an answer and did not come up with one. The fuel pump on my '66 425 has a short stubby connection and a longer connection that necks down to a size for rubber fuel line. The short one is in the rear and the longer one is in the front. Which one is the inlet? Right now, I've got the fuel line from the tank hooked to the rear (short) side. Is this right? Thanks for the help.

  2. Can't say that I'm familiar with the nailhead fuel pumps at all, but doesn't it have the 2 labeled "in" and "out"? I installed a new fuel pump on my sbb a couple weeks ago, and the new one has both labeled appropriately. It has a hose barb fitting on the inlet port, and a female threaded fitting on the outlet side for the steel line to the carb.

Not mine! It has two push on fittings and NO lettering anywhere on it. It dosen't even LOOK like any nailhead fuel pump I've ever seen!

Not the best diagram, but inlet is in rear, outlet in front (from the '65 Chassis manual).

Thanks Wildcat. That's the pump I usually see. I still can;t get over how much different my pump is.

Sounds like you have a standard aftermarket replacement fuel pump for the 1966 non Air Cond. nailhead. Usually they are marked for the in and out fitting. Some are only marked only in. I have not seen the unmarked ones but I stick to major makers for replacements. I have a NOS AC pump in the original box. The longer stepped down fitting in the front is marked IN. The back shorter fitting is unmarked. I can post a photo tomorrow.
